CPR Study
Universal Ambulance along with EMS
providers in Oakland and Macomb counties are participating in an
F.D.A. approved study to assess the effectiveness of (2) new
devices used during CPR. Additionally several area
hospitals are involved with the study including Beaumont Royal
Oak and Troy, Crittenton, Providence, St. John Macomb, St. John
Oakland, St. Joseph's Mercy of Macomb, and St. Joseph's Mercy of
Oakland.
The devices are the ResQ Pod and ResQ Pump.
ResQ Pod is a small valve placed on the end of a
breathing tube that increases blood flow during CPR; and the ResQ Pump is a
hand-held device with a suction cup that attaches to a person's chest, helping
to lift the chest back to its resting position after compression.
Early studies with these devices indicate significant
improvement in life-sustaining blood flow to the heart and brain during CPR
compared to CPR alone with out the devices. The results include improved
survival rates and may potentially decrease the risk of brain damage.
